Get Bururu

Bururu is free, with no feature behind a paywall, and for now it comes only through Steam.

Coming soon to Steam

For Windows, Linux and macOS, all on Steam. Put Bururu on your wishlist, and Steam lets you know when it comes out.

What you need

A DualSense or DualSense Edge, on its USB cable or over Bluetooth. On Windows and Linux a DualShock 4 or an Xbox controller works too:

  • A DualShock 4, either model, on its cable, over Bluetooth or with Sony's USB wireless adapter.
  • An Xbox One or Xbox Series controller, on a cable, by Bluetooth or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter. Xbox 360 controllers and pads made like them work too.

Windows

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • Microsoft's WebView2 Runtime, for the window. Windows 11 and nearly every Windows 10 PC already have it. If yours does not, Bururu offers to open Microsoft's download page, and the tray menu works in the meantime.
  • For a DualSense on Bluetooth, two free drivers, which Bururu installs when you say yes. See below.

Linux

  • An x86_64 PC with a current Linux, such as Ubuntu 24.04 or newer. On an older one the window cannot open, and Bururu drives the controller from the tray.
  • No drivers for the DualSense and DualShock 4, on the cable or on Bluetooth. On some PCs Linux asks for your password once, so Bururu may use the controller.
  • An Xbox controller works through its Linux driver. The Xbox Wireless Adapter needs one you add yourself, such as xone.

macOS

  • macOS 13 or newer, on a Mac with Apple silicon or Intel.
  • A DualSense. On a Mac its haptics need Bluetooth: on the cable they play on its rumble motors. Gyro aim is not on macOS yet.

Bururu needs the internet only for the mod list, mod downloads, game pictures and, on Windows, the Bluetooth drivers. Offline, a mod installs from a .brr file.

A DualSense on Bluetooth on Windows: two drivers, once

A DualSense on its USB cable, a DualShock 4 and an Xbox controller need nothing else. On Windows, a DualSense on Bluetooth needs two free drivers, HidHide and usbip-win2. They let games read a virtual controller from Bururu while Bururu drives your DualSense, with its HD haptics and trigger effects.

When you connect a DualSense by Bluetooth, Bururu offers to install them. Close your game first, because the install restarts the USB ports for a few seconds. If you say yes, Bururu downloads the drivers from their GitHub release pages, checks each file, and Windows asks you for administrator permission. Then turn the controller off and on one time, and restart Windows if Bururu asks. You do this once on each PC.

The drivers exist for x64 Windows only. On Windows on Arm, use the cable. Linux and macOS need no drivers.

Install

Once Bururu is out, install it from Steam like a game, and start it from your Steam library. Steam keeps it up to date. The first run walks you through the controller, the mod list and your games.

Uninstall

Quit Bururu from its tray icon (on a Mac, its icon in the menu bar), then uninstall it in Steam. Bururu writes nothing into your games' folders.

On Windows, also delete %APPDATA%\Bururu and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Bururu if they are still there. If you installed the Bluetooth drivers, their setup logs are in Bururu-setup- folders under %ProgramData%; deleting those needs administrator rights.

The two Bluetooth drivers stay, since other programs may use them. To remove them too, use Settings -> Apps -> Installed apps in Windows: HidHide, and usbip-win2, listed as USBip. Remove usbip-win2 right after a restart and before you play, because older versions can hang Windows when they are removed after use. Then restart Windows.

Questions

Is Bururu free?

Yes, and no feature sits behind a paywall. Pro gives early access to new official mods and features, and those come to everyone later.

Can Bururu get me banned?

Bururu and its mods never write to a game's memory and never change its files. Mods read what the game already shares, such as log files, key bindings, the screen, the game's sound and telemetry. A mod may read a game's memory only on Windows, and only for a game the mod list marks as offline with no anti-cheat. Still, some online games forbid any outside tool, so check the rules of the games you play online.

Do I need another controller app?

No. Bururu drives the controller itself. If you use another app for your controller, quit it before you play with Bururu: while some of them run, Bururu leaves the controller to them.

Do I need to change Steam Input?

Only when a game sees Steam's controller in place of yours. Then turn Steam Input off in the game's Properties -> Controller in Steam, and set Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> PlayStation support to Not enabled. For the games we have tested, Bururu tells you when this is needed.
